The Spreader Works!

The boys thought it was going to be too wet to try the spreader.

But they decided to give it a try on the high ground.

It worked great
and is going to cut manure spreading time dramatically.

Then the cattle had to be sorted and let back out.

It feels good to be getting some spring work done again.

What A Difference A Day Makes

Yesterday was a beautiful and sunny 52*!

Ben, Elsie, and Hannah cleaned up a few piles in the west pasture.

It was so nice to have dry ground instead of mud!

 Luke got the 3020 running!

But now he needs to bleed the steering line so the tires turn.

So much to learn.
So little time.

And then came today.....
It was gorgeous,
though a little cold this morning.

By noon it wasn't quite so gorgeous.

By 3:00 pm it was even less so.

I don't know how much we got because it is so heavy and wet.

At least it won't last long in March!

Maxine

Maxine was born Thursday afternoon!
She is Bernadette's first kid.
Bernadette is a very attentive mom,

and Maxine is a happy,
jumpy,
strong,
adorable little girl.

Working On The 3020

Luke has been able to spend a little time
the last couple of afternoons
working on putting the 3020 back in running condition.

It's almost there.......
But the torque wrench broke.....
and he's waiting on new bolts and gaskets for the oil pan.

Maybe Monday.

Vernon Arrived

Molly took the mail down to the mailbox
and noticed a new calf in the runway.

Vernon was up and bouncing around already.

Now Winona and Vernon can play the rest of this rainy day.

Winona

About 6:00 this morning Winona arrived.
Ginger was a first time heifer.

She looks like a good mama.

Winona should have at least one new friend joining her before long.

Another Calf!

Paul spotted this big guy out in the pasture about 2:30 this morning.
We named him Xerxes.

Ramona is such a good mom.
Zelda had to go check Xerxes out too.

The little goat kids are doing great.
It was 68* today so Elsie moved them
out to the pasture for some fun.
But of course these pictures were taken in the barn
before the big move.

A New Spreader

When we started spreading manure 10 years ago
the little JD worked great for us.
But now we've grown enough
that it just hasn't been big enough for the last couple of years.
Hopefully this new-to-us H & S spreader will work for awhile.

Escapee

York was less than 48 hours old yesterday morning
when he made his first pasture break.
He was quickly and safely returned to his mom....
who never even realized he was missing.

A New Sign

I had a little creative burst Sunday afternoon!
I found a couple of pallets out in the pasture
and hauled them up to the shop
and got to work.

Paper and chalk first.

Then the painting.

Luke drilled the holes and put the bolts in for me today.

Then we put it at the end of the driveway.

This is as far as we can go since the ground is still so wet.
As soon as it dries out we will finish the project.
I can hardly wait!

Guineas

All I can say is,
They sure are lucky there was no laundry on the line
except a pair of dirty Carhartt bibs!

York!

Phyllis and York!
What a good mama she is.
York was born about 10:45 this morning
and was up and stumbling about by 11:00!

He's a great big, bouncy baby boy!

Movin' Manure

Yesterday was a great day to get a start on the nasty job.

Time didn't permit Ben to get it all done,
but he got a decent start.

Hannah got the gate for Ben on his many trips.

Here's the beginning of Manure Mountain.

Hershey and Tess stood guard
and watched from their lookout point.

Zelda Is Doing Great

Zelda is doing great.
She's putting on weight and not looking quite so tiny.

Love the newborn calf, fuzzy, furry coat!
And what a cute nose!
