The Corn Is In

Yippee!
The corn was planted last night.

Now all of our crops are in the ground.
And we got 1.02" of rain today!!
Bring on the heat!

I couldn't resist the picture!

Snowbird

I was kneeling down taking picture

of Breckenridge and his mom

when Snowbird came over to visit me.

She's cute

and a little naughty

and she loves attention!

New Chicks

The new chicks arrived early yesterday morning.

Donuts

Fresh donuts anyone?

The girls have been having fun in the kitchen with the house arrest.

Bale Wrapper

The boys decided to try their new bale wrapper today.

The wanted to make sure it works

before summer and the demand for it starts.

It needs a few minor adjustments,
but worked great overall!

Three More Calves

Easter Sunday morning
Ben looked out and saw a new calf out front.

She was loaded in the Viking
and taken over to the shed.

Her mama and two others who were close
were also walked over to the shed.

One of the others had her calf shortly after getting there.
The problem is that the mama's aren't sure whose calf is whose.
And the babies aren't sure whose mama is whose.
Life can be so confusing!
So the dark faced one is Eagle Point
and our best guess is that Cheyenne is her mom.
And we think Betsy is the mom of Bogus Basin.
The calves are not by their supposed moms in this picture!

There is no question that Phoenix is the mom of Powderhorn
who was born today!

Planting

When Ben got home from work Friday
 he brought the planter home

and we all got busy.

After getting it all vacuumed and cleaned out

and the settings set

the seed went in and we went to the field.

Everyone helped in some way or another...
vacuuming, seed mixing, seed delivery, planting, packing, cleaning up, etc.

Before we headed in at 9:45
we stopped by the shed to say good-night.

And now we await the promised rain.

Keystone

Keystone!
Isn't he adorable!
And he is soooo soft!
He was born early Friday morning.

Scarlet and Keystone were moved over to the shed in the afternoon.

Quiet please.
Sleeping babies.

Tahoe

The last barn check of the evening gave us another calf.
Zelda had Tahoe.
He's a little guy
but very full of spunk.

Hershey stuck her head in the pen too.
Mammoth went over to inspect her right away.
Hershey wasn't sure what to think of this at all.

She was even more confused and nervous
when Snowbird came to join in the inspection!

Copper

Jack finally got his brothers to help build his quarter pipe.

It's not 100% done but Jack gave it a workout today.
I warned him that any broken body parts would have to be fixed here at home.
That didn't bother him at all.

Today was a gorgeous day for Copper to be born.

He's an active little guy.
And our only completely red calf.

Lutsen

Lutsen was born Friday evening.
It was a bit of an eventful birth
and first feeding.
Katie Elder was not in favor of having a calf.
She sat down in the chute while Ben was trying to pull the calf.

It was a challenge to get her up and out of there.
Once Lutsen was born
Katie Elder took good care of him.
But she didn't let him drink.
So back in the chute she went.
And she got herself stuck.
Really stuck.
As in we were trying to figure out how to take the chute apart
or cinch her ribs in to get her unstuck.
We eventually got her out.
And finally got Lutsen on for his first meal.

He's a big, big boy
and both are doing great now!

Cookies and Bread

Hannah and Molly spent the day baking yesterday.

They made peanut butter chocolate chip
and monster cookies.

301 cookies!
That should get us through the weekend!

Today Hannah gave homemade bread a try!

Delicious!
