New Calves

Ben brokered a deal for 8 new calves.
There are 3 Shorthorn steers and 4 heifers,
and 1 Shorthorn/ Hereford cross steer.

They came home yesterday.

The Short Fenceline

Tuesday was a half-way decent day.

Ben and Molly put some time in on the short fenceline
by the little waterer.

Paul got in on a little of it when he got home from work.

Weaning, Plowing, and Elsie is 20!

It's been noisy around here
the last few days
with weaning the calves.
Ben and Molly were checking them out.

Hannah went to join them
after she got done filling the water tank.

Jack and I walked out to the alfalfa field
so Jack could ride with Ben.
I love the rows of bales.

It's Elsie's 20th birthday!
I have no idea how that happened so fast!
She is putting in some study time
while waiting to go out for her birthday supper.

Making String Balls

It was time to take a morning
and do something fun.

Hannah, Molly, Jack and I headed to the shop
to make string balls.

I think we made 32.
I can hardly wait until we can pop the balloons tomorrow!

Hauling Cattle

Sunday afternoon was the day to haul a cow and 4 steers to Cannon Falls.

First the trailer that they borrowed had to be cleaned out.

Paul helped back Ben in.

Gates were brought in to make the runway.

Jack manned that gate
while Paul, Luke, Ben, Hannah and Molly
convinced the cattle to get in the trailer.

It went off without a hitch.
Well, except that Paris broke a bolt on the trailer.

They even made it to Cannon Falls and back home in time to make it to church.

Saturday Stuff

Before heading outside to work for the day,
Ben cut all the fat off the brisket for me.
He's wearing Jack's "golf hat".

Paul and Luke spent most of the day in the shop.
Paul cleaned.

Luke worked on Dave's Ford and our JD.

Ben, Hannah, Molly and Jack worked on the fence issues.
Jack was wasting time in the shed
while waiting for the others to call him
and tell him to turn the fence on or off.

Sweeping the Carpet

Yes,
the boy is sweeping the carpet.
Why? you might ask.

Because the fibers in the carpet
were making his putt curve to the left
so he had to straighten them out. 😁

This is what he does while I read history to him,
and quiz him on spelling words.

Plowing and Saturday Work

Last night we walked the cattle in from the alfalfa
for the last time of the season
and then took the fence down.

The plowing started last night
and continued today.

Everyone was home today!
It's been a long time since that has happened.
I rode with Paul for a bit.

While I was riding,
Ben was taking loads of bales to Hillary's Triangle.
See him on the road?

And Hannah was following in the skid steer.

Elsie was inside studying and taking mid-term tests.
Molly and Jack raked some more leaves.

Luke worked on the 3020.

Paul worked in the wood shop
building a spool for the white fence line.

Ben and Hannah put one dual on the 7400.
And then Ben headed back out to plow some more.

The best part of the day
was having everyone home for the day!
