Saturday's Chores

Chores were done quickly this morning.
There were more important plans for the day!
First a couple of loads of hay needed to be sold

and delivered.

It always does my heart good to see the siblings working together.

Maxine was pestering one of the kittens.

Hazel and Maxine were not being very obedient
and didn't want to go back to the pasture
like Elsie was asking them too.

But the cattle, pigs, horses, chickens, goats, cats, and dogs all got fed
and the chilluns made it to Lester Prairie
to spend the day with friends from church.

The Little Barn

Maxine always joins her mom, Bernadette, on the milking stand.
It's good practice for when she gets older.

Tigris had kittens 3-4 weeks ago.
Adorable little critters.
I can't believe they just sat so I could take pictures.

Uriah and Maxine had some play time out in the runway this afternoon.
They are both very sociable
and were not overly anxious to go back to their stalls for the night.

The Corn Is In!

Yippee!
We beat the rain!
And now it had better rain!
It was April 23rd last year too, when we planted corn.
Luke fertilized today.

Ben cultivated.

And Dennis came to plant.
They finished about 8:00 tonight.
Boy, does that feel good!

Blanche got moved to the steer pasture
to put on some weight before heading to market.

Grandkittens!

Hershey is so proud!
Last night her Bonnie had kittens!

Hershey is just beside herself.
She can't decide if she should be taking care of her Bonnie or the kittens.
Such a happy little family.

Egg Layers

Some of the members of the Egg Layers Union met this afternoon.
I sure hope they made wise decisions!

Uriah Is Doing Great!

Uriah is loving being the spoiled babe of the farm!

He gets out of the pasture for some free time a couple of times a day.

This morning he came up to the front door again to wait for his bottle.

Field Work!

Yee Haw!  The JD3020 is back to work!

Ben inter-seeded the pastures this morning.

It's so good to be out working in the fields again!

Elsie, Hannah, Molly and Jack did the rock picking.

Luke cultivated the new alfalfa field.

Ben planted the alfalfa.

It's 8:55 and Luke is almost done packing
and then it's time to stop for the day.

Luke and Uriah

Luke was cleaning up the skid steer this afternoon.
See Uriah back in the corner by Molly?

He might be a tiny bit spoiled.
He's going to be bummin' when he gets moved to the barn
when this cold spell is over.

More Uriah

Uriah is still a bottle baby.
At least he started actually taking a bottle today
instead of having to be tubed.

He spent most of the day out in the yard.

He walked over to greet the guineas.
but they took off running.

So then he followed Ben to the Chicken Castle.

The chickens didn't mind him at all.

By the afternoon he was worn out.

He laid down in the yard for a nap
with the ever-watchful Hershey and Tess guarding him.

Three New Heifers

Trudy,

Scarlet,

and Roxanne arrived this afternoon.

It was nasty cold and windy
so the calves were ushered into the barn.

Then the decision was made to move them to the shed
so all the calves and mamas could have protection
from the cold and wind tonight.
The calves were put in the back of the pick-up and moved over.

Then Ethel, Lovey and Ida were walked over.
And now all 6 are nestled in the shed for the night.

A Bottle Baby?

Luke and Hannah moved MaryAnn to the runway this afternoon.

She promptly broke out and went back to the pasture.
She had her calf and walked away.

Everyone else came to meet him.

Luke carried him back to the barn.

Then they walked MaryAnn back in.

He was so wet and cold and his mama wanted nothing to do with him.

It was very cold and windy
so they carried him to the shop to warm up.
Hershey and Tess went right to work!

Such wonder dogs!

He didn't do well with the bottle...

So he had to have a tube feeding for his first meal.

And now Hershey, Tess, and Uriah
are all curled up together in the service shop for the night!
