A Busy Two Days

Sunday afternoon we went for a drive
past Mt. Rushmore
on our way to the campground.

We didn't bother to stop since everything is closed,
either because of the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020,
or in preparation for Trump's visit on the 3rd.

It was a nice drive anyway.

Monday evening we went for a drive north of the motel.

Paul spotted some huge haystacks out in a field,

and then the farm yard with the equipment.

So we pulled in and he knocked on the door.

The guy was only too happy to come out
and talk old farm equipment with Paul!

It was a great two days!

Baling While We Are In Rapid City

Paul and I are in Rapid City.
Just a fun get-away.

It looks like they've stayed busy at home though!

Luke and Ben cut, tedded, raked, baled, and wrapped the oats.

Now there is a beautiful row of 50 bales!

And Paul and I are about to leave the motel
and go have supper
with Dean and Valerie
and their granddaughters.

Last Calf

Finally!
The last calf of the season greeted us when we got up this morning.
Magnolia had an adorable little heifer calf...Northstar.

We have 25 happy, healthy, cute calves running around the pastures!

The First Cutting Is Done

Yesterday was a busy day!
Paul raked Hillary's

while the boys wrapped Friday night's bales
and discussed the plans for the rest of the day.

Church was raked.

There had been no rain or dew since it was cut
so it was perfect hay again.

Ben baled,
Luke loaded,
and Paul hauled.

The last bale was wrapped about 5:30
and we were ready to quit early.

Everything is wrapped and ready for winter.

Baling

The other night
the boys cut the IP, The Preserve,

and Hillary's big and top triangles.
Paul cut church Friday morning.

After work yesterday
the baling started.
Jack drove the 3020 with the wagons
and the truck with the gooseneck
while Paul loaded bales in the fields.

The weather has been perfect
so the bales are perfect!

Next they will get wrapped.

Cows & Cultivators

One of my favorite things to do...

moving the cattle to a different pasture.

Ben got most of the cultivating done Tuesday night.

Paul and I took the dogs for a ride in the Viking to watch him.

Hershey and Moving Cows

Hershey was so very happy to be able to take her kittens outside to play today.

She loves the toddler stage!

But those little things can be exhausting!

The cows and calves were moved to a new pasture this morning.

Baling!

Let the Fun Begin!

One of our pastures was cut last week and baled Sunday.
We got 3.5 bales off of it.

Luke cut another field of alfalfa Sunday evening.

 Farmers at heart.

Monday was a toasty one.
Real toasty.
Paul raked everything that was cut.

Yesterday (Tuesday) was the baling!
Luke took the day off
and Ben got off early.

It was a group effort.

The wrapper is so fun to watch.

It could not have gone any better!
The alfalfa was perfect,
everything worked problem free,
and the storms held off
until about 2 minutes after they got everything parked
and the shed doors shut.

Then we got .51" in a thunderstorm.
