Burning

Ben went out to the woods this afternoon
and dragged some more logs out to burn.

Even the Skid Steer Didn't Like It

Even the skid steer balked at the temperatures this morning.

It took several hours of being plugged in
before it grudgingly started.

Once the skid steer agreed to start

it sure didn't take long to get the cattle all fed.

No time was wasted outside on chores today!

Hauling Three In

Even if it is Christmas afternoon,
if cattle needed hauled in
you haul cattle in.

They ran around and tried to find a way out for a few minutes.

But when Luke pointed the way into the trailer
they all loaded nicely.

Several customers will have full freezers in 10 days or so.

Working In the Woods

Ben, Elsie, Hannah, Molly, and Jack
have been putting in some time out in the woods.

They've gotten lots of dead trees and underbrush cleaned out.

They worked on it earlier this week
before the bottom fell out of the thermometer.

Ben and Hannah took these first four cool pictures.

Ben did the skidsteer work

while the others hauled the smaller stuff by hand.

They got a couple of roaring fires going out in the plowed field.

This pile was going up good a few minutes after this picture.

They are making great headway in the woods
and have put a good many hours into their labor!

Silseth Family Farm Work Force

The Silseth Family Farm Children

Another Warmish Day

It was another warmish day today.

So after lunch, it was back outside
to get some work done
before the deep freeze arrives.

Elsie got the gates

for Ben while he spread manure.

 Now the cold can come.

Warm Before the Cold

This afternoon was too gorgeous to sit inside
and wait for the cold that is coming.

So right after lunch
the bossman (Ben) took his willing helpers outside
and put them to work.

The feedbunk and round bale feeder got cleaned.

The manure got piled.

And the cattle in these pens
are ready for the ugly cold that is coming!

Another Tractor Done

First, they split the JD.

Looks like a fairly large undertaking to me!

Then they waited a week to get the wrong parts....
and another couple of days to get the right parts.

Then they fixed the clutch
and squished it back together.

 And drove it off.

Early Christmas

Sometimes you have to take a break from work
and put on silly Christmas socks
and celebrate Christmas early with family!

Kittens Anyone?

One kitten was washing Hershey's face
while the other three had supper.
The kittens are all available for new homes!
They are spoiled rotten,
litter box trained,
and love dogs.

They are all well past nursing age too!

When their mom weaned them
Hershey took over!

More Calves

The chilluns bought 7 more head of cattle today.

There are three steers and four heifers.
They are sure hoping for a good return on their investment!

Moving Along On The Splitting

Well,
it looks like the splitting stands are working!

They got it split and it's time to fix the clutch.....

or something like that.

New Steers

Luke and Ben bought some steers and a heifer
to add to the herd today.

Four more Shorthorns joined the group.

It's always nice to see more cattle out in the pasture and feedlot.

Splitting and Fencing

Luke is getting ready to split Larry's tractor.

He has to build a splitting stand first.

Molly and Jack worked on sanding the tire again.

The girls did some fence fixing
before Elsie and Hannah headed to Unhinged.
