Brighton and Spirit

Paul spotted a calf on the camera right away this morning!
Cleo had had Brighton.
Shortly thereafter, Lola had Spirit.

The boot biting, knee nibblers greeted us warmly.

We've never had a group of such overly friendly calves like this.

Spirit was up and running around like a crazy man in no time.

Brighton was a little slower.

 Paul and Molly milked Cleo

and fed Brighton a bottle.

After hauling a heifer to A & M
we came in to watch church and relax for the rest of the day.
Ok, so it's only 12:30...
We are hoping to relax for the rest of the day.

3 More

Yesterday was busy!
Ellie Mae, Navarra, and Ash all had their calves.
Bridger was the first of the day.
She was born out in the mud.

Welch was next.

And Kato finished off the evening.

For some reason many of the calves love to chew on muckin' boots this year.

They are starting to get real playful and fun.

Zermatt is a curious, friendly little guy.
His mom, however, does not like him to go exploring.

Ash and Kato needed a little help figuring things out.

No, I am not sure why he went in there.
Yes, he did end up falling.

Two More

Monday brought us two more calves.
Winona had Breckenridge first thing in the morning.

MaryAnn pretty much decided she just didn't want to have her calf.
So Ben pulled the calf at 8:00.

Fear not,
it was nothing to get too excited about!

Elsie and Molly milked MaryAnn
because she had no interest in her calf.

Elsie fed Snowbird.

She was a hungry little girl!

Ssshhh...sleeping calves!

Sunday Stuff

Another early morning of manure spreading.
This was the last of the cold mornings for quite awhile
so Paul, Ben, and I took advantage of it.

It's far from a clear picture,
but there were several robins watching us!

Church has been cancelled for the next who knows how long.
Pastor Jon is taping his sermons Thursday night
and putting them on YouTube.
We all sat downstairs to watch and learn from him.

The rest of the day was amazingly lazy.
Really lazy.
We needed that.

Alyeska and Manure Spreading

Ginger had Alyeska this morning!

It was cold this morning,
so the first several hours were spent manure spreading.
They made good headway.

Beauty in the Crazy

We welcomed three new bull calves yesterday!
Mammoth was discovered at morning chore time.
His mom is Lovey.
(His mom cleaned him up all sparkly clean after we moved him in!)

Then we had to fill all the equipment with diesel
so we could order more.

We moved Havanna in a little before Zermott was born.

After everyone got home from work
it was conference time.

Then Ben cleaned the shed
while Paul, Elsie, Hannah, Molly and Jack moved animals around.

Clean bedding was spread everywhere.

Alta, Mammoth, and Zermott liked playing outside
in the fresh corn stalks.

Finally, at 7:20,
the last one of the day was born.
The short horn had Arapahoe.

His mom wanted to keep him outside
but Ben wanted him in.

A little bath before bedtime.

Mammoth was overly lazy and lethargic
so Ben and Elsie worked with him and his mom.

Elsie and Molly tried him on a bottle.
He's stubborn.

 Alta wanted to sleep outside.

But she was moved into the shed.
She drifted right off to dreamland.

Alta

The first one is here!
Paul and I went errand running Friday after he got off work.
(We were buying a radio receiver, not toilet paper!!)
We got home around 8:10 and decided to make one last barn check.
There was a calf on the way!
20 minutes later tiny little Miss Alta was here!

All of the yearling calves came to greet the newcomer.

Alta is a small but mighty little thing.

Maybe even a little naughty.
At 9:30 Paul and I went out to check her right before bed.
She had been trying to escape and had gotten herself stuck.
We fixed everything again so she couldn't escape or get stuck.

At 12:30 we went out again.
She hadn't had anything to eat yet
so we got her going on that before we finally headed for bed.

And Saturday she was as happy and bouncy
as she could be!

We Moved the First One In

The time is getting closer.
We moved the first heifer in last night.
Yes, I know there are two in there.
She wanted company.
We are going to try calving in the shed
instead of the little barn this year.

Not Funny

The snow was mostly gone.
The frost is mostly out.
The puddles are mostly dry.
I do not find this humorous at all!!

It's a good thing
that tomorrow is supposed to be 49*.
