Slimey Plowing
The poor tractor is giving it's all.
It is not easy to pull the plow through this wet, slimey, slippery mess.
They are getting it done,
but it is taking much longer than usual.

New chicks
Well, she didn't exactly pick
the warmest time of year
to hatch her chicks!
Five of them were discovered this morning
during the great barn emptying and washing.
They were all moved to the shop
where two more hatched.
The proud mama had them all tucked in for the night
when I last checked on them.

Cleaning Time
Morning chores...
and then school...
and then time to clean the little barn!
The stalls were mucked out
and then Paul power washed the walls, ceiling, and floors.
The ladies have a secret next in the shed.
We usually find 4-8 eggs there every day.

Winter Prep
It's time to start getting things ready for winter.
Yuck!
Yesterday all the chilluns worked
on cleaning up the west side of the shed.
Luke got in on it a bit
when he got home from South Central.
They didn't get completely done,
but at least it was a start.
Today Jack got a start on getting the square baler blown out
and ready to be put away.
And tomorrow it is suppose to rain again.

The First Frost
Saturday morning the 8th brought the first frost of the season.
It was a light one,
but hopefully it caused the death of a few trillion mosquitoes.
The chicken was looking longingly into the warm porch.
But mean me didn't let her in.

The Final Calf
Navara finally decided today was the day to have her calf.
The last one of the season.
We named her Leona.
She's a Shorthorn Hereford cross.
Luke worked on the baler.
The hay is done and it's time to get it ready for corn stalks.

Baling For the Last Time This Summer?
They did it!
They finally got the second cutting done!
Yes, that should be the third cutting but,
after all the rain this summer
we are thankful
to have gotten the second one in.
