Chicken Castle

The weather was perfect for putting up Christmas lights this afternoon.
It was 61 beautiful degrees.

Ben, Elsie, Hannah, Molly, and Jack got the Chicken Castle done!

Saturday Winterizing

We hauled the square baler,
rollabar rake,
and haybine
to Ron's for winter storage yesterday.

Ben hauled 16 bales from Dennis's field
to Ron's too.

They were nice dry corn stalk bales.

Molly and Jack were given the job of sanding the paint off the tire rim of the 7400.

Hershey Is Nursing Kittens Again

Tess has been the main caretaker of the latest litter of kittens.
But lately, Hershey has been stepping in to take over.
She's very nervous if they aren't with her.

If they wander off too far
she goes right after them to gather them around her again.

Their mom weaned them a couple weeks ago.
Hershey is nursing them again!
And yes, she has milk for them!

Winterizing

I told Ben
he could have his younger siblings
for the day on Wednesday
to get whatever done outside
that he needed done.
So he put them to work!

They got lots of equipment cleaned
and ready for winter.

Luke helped this morning too.

A Beautiful Sunrise and Cuddles

This was our beautiful sunrise this morning.

I can't get enough of how cute these six are together!

Plowing

Plowing is much more fun
if you have someone along to stare at you
while you're driving 😁

Corn Stalk and Hay Bales

All of the  corn stalk bales are home

and most are lined up.

Today's job
was to haul the rest of the bales home
from storage at Ron's.

Loaded up and ready to head home again.

Grinding a Little Corn

Not all of the corn fit in the corncrib.
There was half a wagon left.
Ben and Hannah set up the grinder today
to take care of that partial wagon.

Some Corn Stalk Bales Come Home

Tonight was the monthly night
for the four big kids to go volunteer at
 Feed My Starving Children.

 But first,
some of the corn stalk bales
had to be brought home.

There's the beginning of the line.

Corn Stalk Bales Are Done

Finally!

Today was the day to make corn stalk bales.

It didn't all go smoothly
because nothing ever does!

But at least we have all the bales we need for the winter.

Finally Done!

Yippee!
Ben and Jack climbed up the elevator
to squash the corn down some
to make more room.

Hannah and Molly were out to help unload too.

Elsie was inside making cheesecake!

It was fun watching those last rows go down!

 Finally!

Luke and Jack did some more cob moving to make more space.

By the time they were finished
not another single cob could fit in there!

Late Night Picking

The boys have been working for another farmer.
They've been putting in long hours.
So Paul and I have been heading out to pick corn when he gets home from work.

We have picker problems
so we only get a wagon or two every night.

We are persevering though and we will get it done!

 Then these adorable creatures
greet us when we walk into the shop
at the end of the day.

Rotating Tires

Time to rotate tires.

They appeared to be heavy. 😀

Rolling around and moving to the other side.

It took some maneuvering to get them in place.

And of course, there is always the supervisor!

Helpful Uriah

One more night of working on the Peterson waterer.
Uriah came to help and offer advice.

Then Uriah brought his friends to help too.

Picking Corn - Or At Least Giving It A Shot

The elevator needed to be moved into place

and hooked up

before the picking could begin.

Molly and Jack rode in the wagon
to have fun pushing the corn down.

 The mud caused problems though.

Luke brought the 7400 to the rescue.

Now we need a hard freeze so we can get out there and finish.
