Snow Again?

I'm not sure who ordered this,
but it wasn't me!
And I am not in favor of it!

Puddles and Calves

Jack had to show me our new lake.

He skipped ice chunks in it too!

Molly and Jack were supposed to move the calves
in to the runway
so they could go in the barn.
But while they tried to move one in
another escaped.
So they quit.

Several of them were inside laying down when I just went out.
But of course, they all jumped up when I went in the barn.

Chickens Anyone?

We are putting in an order for broiler chickens soon.
If you want us to raise a certain number for you
just let me know how many!
They are raised cage-free out in the yard.
They eat lots of yummy bugs and worms
just like chickens should!
Butcher weight is usually 4-5 pounds.

A Survey

Jack had to answer a survey for the orthodontist yesterday.

"What's your favorite part of spring?"

His immediate answer was,
"Puddles!"

I couldn't find him this afternoon and asked Molly where he was.
She said he was in the puddle.

What was I thinking?!
Of course, he was!

 Where else would he be?!

Saturday's Calves and Ear Tags

Saturday morning
the calves all got ear tagged
before being let out in the pasture.

Sometimes it was a team effort.

Can't blame 'em!
I wouldn't want my ear pierced with that thing either!

Say cheese!

Possibly the most photographed calves in the state!

But who could blame us?

They are just so dog-gone cute!

Magnolia

 "Uhh....
excuse me mister.
That calf belongs to me."

Olive is a great first time mama,
though she was a little confused
when Luke walked to the barn
with her Magnolia.

Thursday Morning Births

The 2:00 a.m. pasture check showed nothing exciting.
But the 5:15 a.m. check had two more new calves.
We moved them into the barn pens and out of the snow and mud.

Peaches was born to Beatrice.

Linden was born to Ginger.

And then nothing for the rest of the day.
I strongly encouraged them to do daytime births,
 but no one was accommodating.

The Calving Has Started

Our calving started Wednesday night.
Paul and I went out to dinner with friends.
Hannah texted to say the first one was born at 6:15.
The theme for names this year is trees.

Cocoa was the firstborn.
Novara is his Mom.

Just before we got home Hannah texted again
to tell us that Lovey had calved.

Teak is the second bull calf of the year.

And finally,
Olympia was discovered having Mahogany
out in the pasture about 10:20pm.

It was a late night.
 We finally all got in,
cleaned up
and in bed
 at midnight.

Teak was going out to greet the world Thursday morning.

Then he decided it wasn't worth the effort
and laid down for a nap instead.

More Work on the 4020

Even the little squirt was recruited to help work on the 4020.
It's good for him!

Filtering Pictures

Luke was playing around on his phone this afternoon.
Here's what he started with.....

and here's what he edited it to.

How fun!

The Second Split

Well, that took a lot longer
than they thought it would.

The boys spent several hours out in the shop
this afternoon
working on that second split.

Paul got home in time to get in on the job
since Ben had to go to work.

And then right after they got it split
Luke had a fire call.

But at least it is split again
and they can get going on the fixings
first thing in the morning.
