The Last of the Corn Stalk Bales
Ben got the last field of corn stalks all raked,
baled,
loaded,
and hauled today.
Paul got in on some of the hauling home.
I drove the truck in the field
for one load
but there was no way I was driving it home!

Corn Stalk Bales
The boys started hauling corn stalk bales
off the field
at noon yesterday.
One boy hauled them home
and unloaded
while the other one stayed in the field
and filled the next load.
Paul and I went out about 7:30 to follow the last load home.
Everything had to be tied down.
Ben headed off across the field and toward home in the truck and gooseneck.
Paul and I followed Luke who was in the 7400 with two wagons.
They finally came in for supper about 8:45.
Leaves, a Kitten, and Naughty Dogs
Ben was home yesterday
for a change.
He put everyone to work
raking leaves.
Luke even got in on the action
since he got home from fire training early.
Poor confused Confetti sat under a tree
and watched whatever was in it.
Anyone know a good animal psychiatrist?
The naughty dogs spent some time in Doggy Jail.

Corn Stalk Bales
I love the look of fields filled with corn stalk bales.
Paul and Ben took turns baling 159 bales off a neighbor's field.

Baler Prep
First Paul took some stuff off.
Then he put it back together.
Look! Ben was home before dark!
It's been awhile since that has happened!
They put a few more parts back together
and it's good to go.

Vet Check
Friday was the day
to move and sort some of the cows,
heifers, and young bull calves
for a vet check.
Not all of them were super cooperative,
but everyone was sorted and waiting when the vet showed up.

A Helper and Walkin' Em In
I was hooking up a hose yesterday
and one of Ben's steers would not stop licking my sleeve.
Molly and Jack walked the heifers in from the alfalfa at chore time.

Fencing the Alfalfa and More Snow
Ben, Hannah, Molly, and Jack
spent several hours fencing in part of the alfalfa yesterday.
We are trying to pasture the cattle
for a bit longer
to save on hay.
The heifers got moved out on it as soon as they were done.
Hannah and Molly sat down for a quick break.
They seem to like it.
Ben and Jack checked in on Klink and Schultz.
This morning started out quite disappointingly.
I hung out laundry anyway.
October 14,
this is bad!

Escapee
Molly and I walked around the side of the shed this afternoon
and saw Frankie out having a snack.
He snuck out
while Ben and Hannah
were feeding his pasture mates.
Nice mud, huh?!

Rain
Klink and Schultz were all snuggled in.
They are tired of the rain and clouds too.
Chore time this morning.
We got .97" last week
and 1.3" this week.
I'm tired of the clouds,
but the sky was a funky blue this morning and kinda neat.
Too bad the camera couldn't capture the true colors.

Before the Rain
I looked out the kitchen window this afternoon
to see the bull sticking his head through the fence.
Elsie and I went out and put him in the runway.
Then I checked the electric fence,
only to discover it wasn't working.
So before we get the 5-6 inches of rain
they
are forecasting,
Paul and I went out to walk the line.
The cows and calves followed us.
It all checked out fine
and we only made one minor repair.

Chickens For Sale
We have too many chickens running around here!
They were hatched this spring and are laying like crazy.
We need to sell about 10.
Let me know if you are interested in any!

Heat, Humidity and Rain
The cattle took the panel off their waterer the other day
so Paul went out to put it together enough to hold
until he can get the part to fix it right.
Yesterday dawned warm
and incredibly foggy.
The humidity was 100%
and it warmed up to 79*!
Then the rain came at chore time
and it dropped 30* before bedtime.
It kept going down over night too.
But at least we got a beautiful sunset out of it.
