Even Colder

After chores
Ben and I went back outside.

Three vehicles didn't want to start this morning.

Can't blame them.
I didn't want to be out there either.

Then we went back to the shed
to break the ice on one of the waterers.

The pipes froze on one of the other waterers later in the day,
but the chilluns were able to get that one thawed.
We are ready for the promised 41* on Sunday!

-22* and -52* Windchill at 7:00 PM

We did the classic
"throw boiling water and watch it evaporate"
today.

It really is fun to watch.

But the temperature had dropped
and the wind had picked up
at chore time.

It wasn't fun out there.

All of the animals have shelter, food, and fresh corn stalk bedding.
It's -22* and -*52 windchill and falling at 7:00 pm.

Good-bye Klink and Schultz

Klink and Schultz took one last stroll through the yard

before being coaxed into the trailer

and hauled to Nicollet this afternoon.

The cattle are not in favor of the weather conditions.

Come to think of it,
none of the rest of us are either!

Getting Ready For the Deep Freeze

It was 3* and -15* wind chill
when we went out to do chores.

It was a bit crisp.

The cattle got moved around

so everyone has shelter

and fresh corn stalks

to help ward off the impending snow coming tonight

and -50* wind chills arriving in a day or two.

True words for this week...
"This weather is not fit for man nor beast."

Supper

Jack has missed his yoyo club for the last few months.
Today we were able to make it.

Hannah and Molly have been wanting
 to make calzones for supper.

Elsie jumped in to help them.

Jack and I walked in at supper time
and had delicious calzones waiting on the table for us!

That's a nice way to come home!

More Chickens

Ben and I
went up north of Glencoe
to get more chickens yesterday.

Hershey wanted so badly to help unload them!

She had to be put in the feed room
while we unloaded
so people didn't trip over her in her excitement.

Now everyone is nicely settled in
and old and new chickens are getting along just fine.

Which is good,
because we have some nasty, ugly, bitter cold coming.

Chore Time

Jack had to show that he can be a hot dog like Ben!

The cows are always so excited
to get another corn stalk bale.

There's lots of twisting
and running
and flopping.

Hannah and Molly had gate duty.

Ben let Jack drive the skid steer
back to the shop
because it was playing one of Jack's favorite songs.

A Walk After Dark

I went for a walk after dark tonight.
It was a beautiful 35*.
What a great time to walk and pray in the silence.
The corn crib light made some fun shadows.
