Prepping for SD

When Ben got home tonight

it was time to get some bedding bales

and feed bales done

in preparation for leaving for Rapid City in the morning.

Paul, Molly, and Jack were out there to help.

Now if only the snow would quit.

Ski Jump

One of the triangles that we bale hay on

has a decently steep,

albeit short, hill.

Jack has spent several hours over there moving our limited snow around

and building jumps.

It's hard to do real well on such a short hill

but it's better than nothing!

A Blizzard

Wednesday was a get-ready-for-Christmas day.

Look!
The puppy girls got beds!

Wednesday was also Blizzard Day.

It started off warm and calm and brown.

But then it blew in more and more
as the day went.

This is a picture of the Chicken Castle

from the livingroom window.

It was a nasty day!

Way Behind

Wow, it's been awhile.
I guess it's been busy.

We braved the cold for some pictures the other day.

'Twas a chilly one,

but we got some decent pictures anyway.

Working in the Woods

Sunday afternoon some of us went out to the woods.

There's a ton of buckthorn and dead trees
that need cleaned out.

Luke pulled and hauled the buckthorn.

Ben cut up dead trees.

Jack got in on some of the saw action too.

Hannah, Molly and I

hauled branches and logs to the huge pile in the field.

Someday when we have lots of snow cover
we will have a couple of big fires to light.

Cutting up Skirts

 While I read history today

Molly and Jack were busy

cutting the elastic out of bunches of skirts and dresses

that no longer fit.

Molly ironed them before I cut about 50 squares out.

Slow but steady....

A Start on a Quilt

Finally a lazy day inside.
I decided to get started on cutting up a stack of jeans.
I had Molly and Jack cut the legs off
last week while I read a history book to them.
Today I cut 200 blocks out.
I'm trying a different pattern this time.
It works in my head
so we'll see if it works in reality.

Our doodler did some doodling in the garage tonight.

Looks great, Molly!

Fencing and Windy

Paul has been putting in some insane hours
because a bunch of crews went to Texas
and guys are out with Covid.

So the rest of us have been holding down the fort.

Great headway was made on the fence by the barn!

and the waterer.
Only two gate chains to fix and it is all done.

It was windy the other day.

Super windy.

It took some work,

but Molly, Jack and I got the hut back down and secure.

Fencing Fun

Paul and Ben both had some days off this week.

Its was in the mid to upper 70s and sunny all week!

What perfect fencing weather!

These pictures aren't in order because Blogger is being a problem again.

The old goat pasture line got several poles replaced and new wire strung.

The waterer got leveled.

The fence line on the south end of the barn got changed.

Four gates got hung.

Everyone helped when they were available.

It is 99% done

but it was dark when we finished
so pictures have to wait until tomorrow.

Fence Fixin'

Several weeks ago Paul had a day off
and worked on fencing.
Part of that project
was pulling several broken fence posts.

And then cold and snow and work and trips and life
got in the way of finishing the project.
So when Ben unexpectedly got Friday afternoon off
he put some of his younger siblings to work.

They spent the morning
fencing in the corn field
that had been plowed up
and planted to a cover crop
so they could move the cows out there.

They got as far as where the gate will go

before time of day

and other work called them away again.

Not My Idea

This was not my idea
and I don't find it humorous.

See the green grass
outside the window
behind the sleeping boy?

I would much rather that it look like that ↑
than this ↓

But I wasn't asked.

So yesterday we got way too many inches of this stuff
to cover the beautiful green grass.
