More Cold Pictures

More crazy cold temperatures.
Like -11* highs
with -38* windchill.

We had to plow our way in to our neighbor's place
to do their chores on Christmas Eve.

The back door light
made for some interesting pictures.

Ben and I spent a couple hours outside on Monday.

He cleaned pens,
and fed,

and plowed a path to the pasture
for the cows.
I got gates
and took pictures!

Monday night when I took Hershey and Tess out
the shop light was making incredible shadows
on the little barn.
I almost froze to death
but I love the pictures!

I played with editing for a bit
just to see fun effects.

COLD

 It was cold yesterday.
Bitter cold.
The animals all have fresh bedding and full tummies.

And it got worse when the wind picked up.
We rarely get blizzard warnings.
Ben said there have only been 6 for us in the last 20 years!

It even looks brutal.

They started advising no travel
and closing several roads last night.
They've been adding to it all day.

"They" said it was going to be a heavy snow winter.
I heard today that we have already had
twice what we usually get in December.

Is 3:13 too early to crawl into bed and wait for spring?

Fresh Snow

I couldn't help myself!

I had to get outside first thing

both yesterday and today.

I've been waiting for this opportunity.

Thankfully it wasn't very cold.

The camera can not capture

the true beauty that

God gave our eyes to behold.

Fence Fixing

We had some nice, late November days.

There were several small but vital fence areas
in need of a quick fix.

It's nice to have those areas reinforced.

Elsie did the last waterer cleaning of the fall too.

Manure Spreading Class

Ben held a class Sunday afternoon.

Most everyone paid attention.
Lexus seems to be the problem student this year.
She spent her time visiting me
and checking out the spreader
instead of paying attention.

Chore Time

There were some square bales
left over from the hayrides
that needed fed to the calves.
Hershey and Tess didn't want to miss out
on the Viking ride!

The calves waited patiently

but then got rather pushy to get the yummy hay.

Hershey is a big chicken at heart!
She is scared to death of the cattle!

Ben got home in time
to scrape the pasture in the dark.

Gate Hanging Class

Monday afternoon was Gate Hanging Class.

All of the calves showed up and were quite attentive,

except Lexus, who loves the attention
and has to be the class clown!

Waterer Winterization

 A few weeks ago

it was time to winterize the waterers.

Paul makes a great scratching post.

Everyone watched and listened.

Such an attentive class!

In the end,
I'm not sure they learned much.

But at least they were well behaved!

Baling is Done

The 2022 baling season ended last weekend.

We finished off with doing cornstalks  at Grimm's.

Thank you, Lord!

It kind of makes me sad.
Baling is my favorite season of the year.

Custom Work

 A neighbor called.

He wanted to try something new
to see if there would be less damage to the alfalfa.

So he had Paul rake with our WD45.

It was a great day for it!

We Heard That One

I wanted to sleep in this morning,
but I heard some far away rumbling,
so I got up to hopefully watch a storm.

It was very dark.
There was a decent lightning show going on,
but nothing spectacular.

Then there was one simultaneous lightning bolt and thunder!
This tree is 40-50 feet straight west of the shop.
There are splinters of it on the ground right behind the shop.

Jack was laying in bed and saw it happen.
It twisted his hammock up pretty good.

That brought the end of the loud part of the storm.
It still gave us 1.92" of rain though!
