Luke's Tree

 We interrupt the calm day

 for some weather.

We watched it roll in.

 I kept watching our trees
waiting for one to go down.

It never dawned on me to go check at Luke's.

Luke came over right after work

for Molly's birthday.

He discovered this

when he went home.

Looks like we have our work cut out

for the next couple of days.

We've had 4.34" of rain since last Friday

with more coming over the next couple of days.

"Twas a Foggy One

I don't know if I've ever seen the fog so thick.

It was nice to feel totally locked in from the outside world.

Do you see the cows and calves?

I'm guessing that the kid who ran the stop sign at the corner

and took out the road sign

and landed in the corn field

wasn't quite so thrilled with the beauty of it!

Crazy Busy Before the Rain

 Thursday Paul cut the millet
while I went to Brookings, SD for seed.
The boys made the decision to bale
and try to get the cover crop planted yet that night
before the rain came.

Instead the baler broke down after 17 bales.
And it didn't rain.
So they got busy spreading manure where the baling got done.

Friday morning, Paul went to Lano's for parts.
The boys only worked a half day
and then the crazy began.

By 9:30 Friday night
they had fixed the baler,
raked,
baled,
hauled bales,
wrapped the bales,
spread all of the manure,
re-bedded the cattle pens,
disked twice,
planted the cover crop,
and dragged the field.

The incredible lightning show
and an inch of rain
started between 3:00-4:00 a.m.!

The dogs slept well after all that exercise!

Baling on Jack's 15th Birthday

For the first time in many days

we had blue skies instead of smoke

for Jack's 15th birthday!

He went to Game Stop with the girls in the morning

and the baling started when they got home.

We have a decent winter supply

set aside now.

We finished and came in for supper about 10:30.

Happy Birthday, Jack!
We love you!

Almost Done

There has been one problem after another.

That's what happens when you try to rebuild

a tractor that has not been maintained.

But they have persevered

and now they are nearing the end.

I don't know how many hours have been put into it

but I know it's been a lot!

They got frustrated but never gave up.

It's almost ready to go back home!
